Summer Cook Wraps Season with Back-to-Back World Cup Wins, Top Ten in ITU World Triathlon Series

DELRAY BEACH, FL – November 7, 2017 – Summer Cook wrapped her fourth season of racing with back-to-back ITU wins at the Tongyeong World Cup (South Korea) on October 28 and the Miyazaki World Cup (Japan) on November 4. At her final race in Miyazaki, she paired her strong swim and run with a fast and tactical bike leg that set her up to win by a 37 second margin.

Summer had twelve ITU starts for the year, really hitting her stride in the second half of the season, with wins at the Altafulla World Cup (Spain) on July 2 and the Yucatan World Cup (Mexico) on August 12. With each of the four victories, she was first out of the water and posted race-best run splits three times.

Summer came ninth at the 2017 Rotterdam World Triathlon Series Grand Final, clinching her spot in the top-10 for the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series Rankings, continuing her ascension up the leaderboard.

In September, Summer stepped outside of the ITU to race the two-day, six-race Super League Triathlon event in Jersey, UK, where she came second to Katie Zaferes against a talented field of top pros that included ITU and Olympic champions. The unconventional Triple Mix and Eliminator race formats favored Summer’s top-end speed.

“It feels fantastic to wrap the season with double World Cup wins coming off of my second-place finish at Super League. The work that we’ve put into improving my biking is paying off, and there are still ways to carve time out of my overall performance. This season has left me really motivated to take things up a notch. I’m just getting started!”

In 2016, Summer was named the ITU Women’s Breakout Star, and this year has proven she is established.

Summer Cook’s sponsors include ROKA, the New York City Athletic Club, Team Psycho Triathlete, and USA Triathlon. She is coached by Paulo Sousa of The Triathlon Squad, and managed by fortyninegroup, LLC.
