5.11 Apex Pant Review
Combining precision engineering, functional design, and resilient construction, the 5.11 Apex Pant is a next-gen cargo pant that exceeds expectations in any role, and is ideal for tactical, casual, or covert wear.
The 5.11 Apex Pant offers excellent build quality, and I wouldn’t expect anything less from 5.11. In case you aren’t aware, 5.11 specializes in very usable, durable tactical gear. The 5.11 Apex Pant is made using 67% polyester and 33% cotton. The material is thick and tough while still being fairly breathable and flexible. Gusseted construction is offered throughout the pant for increased strength in those areas that need it. These pants are built to take a beating day after day and still last for years. Probably my favorite feature about the construction is the fact that the pants are treated with Teflon. Teflon helps to repel stains, soil, and moisture. I wouldn’t call these pants waterproof, but water beads up and runs right off of them. They do a great job at keeping my legs dry in the rain.
On top of the usual front and rear pockets expected on pants, these pants offer a cargo pocket (with internal pockets) on each leg as well as extra pockets in the rear just slightly above the usual rear pockets. All of the pockets are placed in specific locations to minimize discomfort from objects in pockets. I am very particular with things in my pockets, they always have to be placed into my pockets in a way that won’t cause rubbing against my legs or a large glob of items all in one spot. Thanks to the internal pockets in the cargo pockets, I was able to place my small items into their own pockets to keep them from bugging me, and my large items into the main compartment. The cargo pockets offer a zipper to keep all of my items secure. On the rear, the main pockets aren’t much different than the pockets you would find on a typical pair of jeans, but there are small pockets hidden just slightly above the main rear pockets. These pockets are about half the size of the main rear pockets. This is a lot of talk about pockets, but I just had to express how much I really enjoy the pockets in the 5.11 Apex pant.
The 5.11 Apex Pant is built to be a tactical pant, but it is so much more. They are cargo pants, so of course they are perfect for any any activity where you need some extra room to carry cargo. One use that these pants really work well for is hiking. They are not advertised as hiking pants, but trust me, if you’re looking to get some new hiking pants then look no further. They are warm, but breathable. They are durable, but flexible. They resist water, and they are very comfortable. They make perfect hiking pants. However, if you want all of the qualities I just mentioned except the warmth, then I would recommend the 5.11 Traverse Pant 2.0. The 5.11 Traverse Pant 2.0 is a bit thinner and lighter, so I would recommend it for hiking in temperatures greater than 75°F.
If you’re looking to get a pair of very comfortable, usable, and durable pants then the 5.11 Apex Pant will not let you down. These pants offer superior build quality, tons of pockets, and (my favorite) teflon coating. Get yours today from Amazon. If you want a shirt to go with these pants, I would highly recommend the 5.11 Intrepid Short Sleeve Shirt. You can read my review about the 5.11 Intrepid Short Sleeve Shirt here.
