2XU Thermal Compression Tights – by Gelder Lewis

THERMAL COMPRESSION TIGHTS

I am not a fan of the treadmill, but if I have no other option I will spend some time on it to bang out some training.  However, this only happens if I don’t have the right gear with me and I am traveling and not comfortable running into a sketchy part of an unfamiliar town. If you have good running gear you can run year round where I live.  I run in the snow, rain, and most of my miles are on trails in the hillsides of the Rockies.

Cycling is another story.  My bike is on a trainer for most of the winter because I don’t like sliding around on wet or icy roads. I do like mountain biking on muddy spring trails. Cooler weather on bikes can be very refreshing, so anything that helps me stay outside is great.  I typically wear tights cycling under 55 degrees and running under 45.  2XU has 2 great thermal compression tights. These tights have given me the ability to use tights at warmer temps and colder temps.

These tights are the most comfortable tights that I have ever used; and I have tried many.  In single digit temps running is brutal. These tights make the experience much more tolerable. With thermal in the title you may think you are running in a thicker tight that won’t allow full mobility, but this is not the case. The material is PWX FLEX (power, weight, flex); it’s soft and light-weight with great comfort and full range of motion. These tights have a nice durable tie string in the waist that has never disappeared in the wash.  After more than 10 washes they are as good as new and holding up well. This tight stays in place running securely. You will not be showing any plumber’s crack with these.  If you position them slightly off center they can slide into a better position because the graduated fit is precisely positioned to keep muscle groups covered and supported.

This full length tight is great for long runs in cold temperature.  Because of the great regulation of core body temperature with huge temperature swings these work well from single digit temps to 50 degrees. I have used them where the starting temp was about 20 degrees Fahrenheit and then a couple hours later around 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The tights are not soaked with sweat at the completion of a serious workout because they regulate so well; great breath-ability for a long warm thermal tight.

Compression Tights are the only tights I run in now.  I like the feeling of getting done running 12 miles and not feeling anxious to pull these off.  They support my hams, quads, abductors, gluts and calves perfectly.  It may sound funny but these tights are cozy.

MEN’S THERMAL COMPRESSION TIGHTS 3/4

Johnny West, a representative of 2XU, is a very experienced snowboarder and endurance athlete. He recommends the 3/4 tight for snowboarding because the tight ends perfectly where the boot meets the material of the tight.  If you ski or ride you will be so surprised by how great your legs can feel after a long day of pounding the slopes. This was my first time experiencing the benefits of compression while snowboarding. The compression benefit from this product is less fatigue, less soreness and great recovery. If you are planning multiple days in any snow sport activity these tights will dramatically change your experience.

For running and cycling the 3/4 is perfect. Ideal in temperatures from 40-65 degrees Fahrenheit. This gives the range as you head into warmer temps with spring and even an occasional cool bike ride in the summer.  Whatever you are doing take 2XU compression tights with you. You will be impressed with the lasting comfort and muscle stabilizing effect that these tights have.

You are probably asking what is the difference between 2XU and every other tight on the market?  There are many companies claiming that they have the best tight for performance or recovery.  I think the answer is in the research and development that has gone into this product.  From start to finish 2XU uses extensive research and athlete input into the building of these specialized products. Also, the material is unique. The PWX material (power, weight, flex) creates the essential balance to deliver great comfort and usability in all environments.  2XU is not a company that jumped on this compression bandwagon they have been driving the wagon all along.
