Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles

Montem offers great quality at a great price with the Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles. At $49.99 for a pair, the price is honestly pretty hard to beat. These poles are built to take a beating, hence the Ultra Strong part of the name. They are pretty light weight, and highly adjustable.

Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles are built using the same materials that you would expect from any other great trekking pole maker. The 3-section shaft is made using Aluminum 7075. The grips are made using nonslip EVA foam (which they say is stronger than cork). On the other end of the pole you’ll find a nice carbide tip with a quickly removable rubber cover, as well as a removable plastic basket. Weighing in at 19.2 ounces for the pair, these may not be the lightest poles on the market, but they are definitely not heavy.

Get a Grip

Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles offer foam grip extensions (black) extending below the main EVA foam grips. These grip extensions allow for lower hold points for your hands during those steep ascents. The EVA foam used in the grips helps wick sweat and doesn’t absorb odor. It is soft to the touch and very comfortable to hold for extended periods of time. The wrist straps can be used to provide extra support for your hands/wrists. They offer a soft pad and they are highly adjustable in a quick easy manner. To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap. Pull on both ends of the loop to force the tension block to lock into place again.

The Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles offer a variable length of 24 to 53 inches. The variable length can be achieved quickly using 2 clasps. These clasps are similar to the clasps you would expect on an adjustable bicycle seat post. To set the poles to your desired length you open the clasp by pulling on it, adjust the pole to the desired length, then finish off by closing the clasp. If you notice that the pole collapses under weight then you just need to open the clasp and tighten the clear plastic nut a bit before closing the clasp again. In my testing I never had any problems with the clasps holding tight under weight. Watch the following video for a visual demonstration of how to make adjustments.

The Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles offer everything that any hiker should ever need from a trekking pole. They are quickly adjustable, comfortable, relatively lightweight, ultra strong, and sold at a great price. I would highly recommend these poles to everyone. The only down side I see to these poles versus other poles that I have tested is the weight. I think the cost savings justifies the weight gain, but i’ll leave that decision to you.
