Steps to the SUMMIT reaching the top……. by Paul Fejtek

Whether it is training for the Ironman or Everest or whether it is building a thriving career or business, there are two principles required for success: determination & discipline.

Steps to the SUMMIT is the first hand account of reaching the highest peak on every continent. This is an accomplishment that Fejtek did with his wife Denise by his side.  The telling of this adventure is exciting, thrilling, and very thought provoking.

I met Fejtek at an Investment Banker ski day at Snowbasin Ski resort in Northern UTAH.  He is a genuine, humble individual.  He has accomplished something that very few have.  He is also the third person in history to complete the “Peak to Heat Double” – the combination of summiting Earth’s highest peak, Mt. Everest, and finishing the Triathlon World Championship – the Hawaii Ironman, KONA.  I really enjoyed visiting with him about his triathlon experiences.  Because of these significant triumphs the motivation that can be drawn from his experience is truly meaningful.

In every chapter of the book there are life lessons that are shared with relevant experience.  I have read many books that try to motivate and educate.  This book takes real accomplishment and talks about some of the nitty gritty details that get in the way of success.

Fejtek has had his own real challenges.  Born with BPI- partial paralysis of his arm he has had to work through challenges that most people cannot even fathom.  His spirit of adventure and a positive attitude make this book exceptional.  He has a “nothing is impossible” attitude that is magnetic.

The book talks about the Challenged Athletes Foundation and the goal of raising money for the group.  At some of the most intense moments on Everest he draws on the inspiration of those that he knows have overcome great odds to succeed in life.

In almost every page there is a famous quote.  I really enjoyed the placement of these motivational quotes.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Happiness is not ready made, it comes from your own actions. -Dalai Lama

No matter how steep the mountain-the Lord is going to climb it with you.  – Helen Steiner Rice

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. – Helen Keller

I truly enjoyed the opportunity to meet this person and read about his experience.  This book is a gift to anyone really seeking to understand what they can do to reach their own SUMMIT.
