After not racing for nearly 2 years due to the pandemic we were so excited to be able to race in The Logan TRI. On Hill Events created a great event.
On Hill Events gave us a great opportunity to really race in a fantastic venue. The weather was great and the course was just what we needed to get back in the saddle.
I did the Olympic distance. This was an F1 format so we repeated the Sprint distance twice. This was done by repeating the transitions. My wife, and 2 of my sons participated in the race. We all had a great experience.
The morning of the race it was a cool 55 degrees at 6am. The water was warmer than the air when we started the swim. Logan Aquatic center has an outdoor 50 meter pool. On Hill Events did a staggered serpentine start.
The BIKE went west in a straight line down a nice country road. Straight out and straight back. Totally flat ride at good speeds only crossing one lighted intersection. Flying through with the officers waving us on reminded me of why racing can be so great. Having the ability to push speed without stopping. I always yell out to all the officers and volunteers THANK YOU!
The RUN went winding past a really nicely shaded park, passing a neighborhood and going into a shaded river path next to a golf course. This shaded path lead to the turn around point. This was a great flat run course with a couple of turns left and right. Very little motor vehicle traffic on the bike and the run made the morning so peaceful.
Here is a thought from Rusty Cannon that raced with us: Instead of timing chips the race uses punch pads at each transition to mark your number as you pass. It worked fairly well except a few transition times for me were not entered for some reason. My final time was accurate but it was hard to tell how I did on a few segments while trying to do the math myself.
This triathlon costs a little less than other local events and timing chips may be the reason for the cost savings. But the finishing medals are really nice.
In summary On Hill Events put together a smooth race a clearly marked course. Check out other events @ http://onhillevents.com/
