4-time Olympian, gold medalist, and ITU world champion shares Swim Speed Secrets in 5 events
Boulder, CO, USA – January 28, 2015 – Swimming coach Sheila Taormina has announced
her 2015 series of freestyle swimming technique clinics. Through underwater video
analysis, drills, and strength exercises, swimmers and triathletes at these events
will learn how to develop the technique, timing, and range of motion required for
faster swimming. Registration is now open through
Small class sizes mean that swimmers will have opportunities to work with Sheila
Taormina as she introduces the intricacies of the propulsive underwater pull, the
strong connection between core muscles and limbs, and refinements to timing, rhythm,
and turnover required to become a faster swimmer.
The goal of the Swim Speed Secrets clinic is to provide the athlete with a thorough
introduction to the skills they will refine whenever they go for a swim.
Sheila Taormina’s 2015 Swim Speed Secrets Clinic Schedule:
* January 30-31: Swim Speed Secrets | Las Vegas/Henderson, NV
* February 27-March 1: Swim Speed Secrets | Denver/Boulder, CO
* April 17-19: Swim Speed Secrets | Atlanta/Sandy Springs, GA
* May 15-17: Swim Speed Secrets | Chicago/Crystal Lake, IL
* May 22-24: Swim Speed Secrets | Seattle, WA
Each clinic includes an Out-of-Water Session and an In-Water Clinic:
Out-of-Water Session (2 hours): Coach Sheila Taormina explains why proper swimming
technique is so critical to fast swimming by revealing the mechanics and science of
swimming in a clear, easily understood way. This session clears up conflicting
advice in how swimming is taught and many swimmers find answers to questions they’ve
had for years. With the foundation of this session, swimmers will clearly understand
the purpose of each swimming drill taught during the in-water session. Athletes will
leave this session with several high-priority technical goals so they can practice
with focus instead of just swimming laps.
In-Water Clinic (3 hours):
* Underwater filming and analysis: All registrants’ freestyle strokes will be filmed
underwater from head-on and profile angles. Athletes will sit with Sheila
immediately following the filming to have their stroke reviewed. Swimmers will take
their videos home on a flash drive for easy reference.
* Underwater pull path: Swimmers will learn the three phases of the underwater
freestyle pull. Through drills and dryland exercises, swimmers will learn how to
engage the hand, forearm, and upper arm through the freestyle stroke.
* Core movement and stroke timing: Swimmers will learn proper core movement and
practice exercises that build the upper body strength required for proper stroke
